CBI Ghana has launched Supacem LC3-45, an innovative limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) that marks the first commercial use of calcined clay with less than 50% clinker content. Located in Tema. the world’s largest LC3 cement plant is a landmark in Ghana’s industrial innovation—combining bold investment, scientific collaboration, and environmental stewardship. By leveraging local clay as a substitute for clinker, CBI Ghana is setting new standards in sustainable construction, reducing carbon emissions, enhancing resilience within the nation’s cement supply, and nurturing local capacity and expertise. With a CO2 footprint of just 394 kg CO2 per ton, they have not only met the 2030 global industry target of 400 kg CO2 per ton…but done it 5 years ahead of schedule.

The plant uses flash calcination technology with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day, enabling it to produce approximately 0.4 million tonnes of calcined clay annually.
