In April 2018, he was appointed as a member Biomass Sustainability Working Group organized Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. He is a board member of Japan Woody Bioenergy Association.

He was previously employed in a senior research consulting position for Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co., Ltd. from 2004 to 2016 and was involved in investigations and consulting activities on the forest sector.

He obtained his Master's degree in forest ecology from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University. In March 2016, he completed his doctorate in agricultural studies on the theme of human resources development policy in the area of forest management.

Mr Okamoto established Sumitomo Corporation's biomass business in 2002 and led its growth in wood pellets in Japan. While at Sumitomo, Mr Okamoto played an active role in establishing the company’s upstream integration into wood pellet manufacturing in South America and Canada. Following Sumitomo’s investment in Pacific Bioenergy, Mr Okamoto went on to support their sales team as SVP of Sales and Logistics, focusing on the long-term sustainability and traceability of wood pellets and wood chips.

He started his career in Blue Ocean Industry as a research engineer focusing on developing technologies for sustainable resource circulation. He led multiple joint R&D projects, including the most recent collaboration work with Korea Environment Corporation, a subagency of Ministry of Environment. In 2018, he presented in seminar at 5th INT’L Biomass Expo held in Tokyo, regarding causes & empirical solutions for clinker in biomass boilers.

 

He received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and was awarded with the “Presidential Award - Gold Medal” in the 44th National Quality Circles Competition 2018.

He developed biomass fired district heating systems, worked with and for IFIs and EC in renewable programs, established the first ever online trading platform for biomass, initiated the acceptance of PalmKernelShell as power plant fuel and organized the first ever shipment and continuous supply of PKS from Indonesia to Europe.

 

He lead the development of one of the first continuous torrefaction processes and holds since 10 years the presidency of the International Biomass Torrefaction Council IBTC. He is part of Austria’s delegation to IEA Bioenergy.

 

Michael is principal of Wild&Partner, an Austria based consultancy focused on helping bioenergyinitiatives to grow, he is CEO of SmartPelletHeeater Ltd, a company specializing in wood pellet fired outdoor heaters, contributes as consultant to numerous project developments around the globe in solid biomass fuels and carbonization. Michael is member of Lee Enterprises Consulting, the Worlds Premier Bioeconomy Consulting Group and assisting Lignum Renewable Energy in building a vertically integrated biomass energy and carbonized biomass.

Bill has been named as one of the most influential leaders in the biomass sector in 2016 and again in 2017 by Argus Media and is the 2012 recipient of the International Excellence in Bioenergy award.  In 2021 a dashboard built by Dr. Strauss won the Limitless Business Intelligence Dashboard award at a major business intelligence conference.  Bill has more than forty years of experience in the renewable energy sector.  He has an MBA (specializing in finance) and a PhD (economics and earth systems science) both from the University of New Hampshire.

Vaughan joined Drax through their acquisition of Pinnacle Renewable Energy Inc. in 2021. Vaughan was the executive in charge of commercial activities at Pinnacle. He remains a Director of the Wood Pellet Association of Canada and is serving as its President. He is a past-Director of the London based Sustainable Biomass Program Ltd (SBP) and past-Chairman of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters association, BC Division.

 

Vaughan has an extensive career in international business, particularly in the forest products industry. Previously, he spent almost 20 years with Sappi, a global pulp and paper company. As their executive in charge of their world-wide pulp sales, he was stationed in Hong Kong for 10 years before moving to Canada in 2007 and joining Pinnacle in 2011. Vaughan earned his BSc from the University of Natal and his MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand, both located in South Africa.

Richard co-founded Landkom International Pic, the first listed company in the global agricultural sector which he grew to be the single largest agricultural holding in the world at that time, creating employment for around 10,000 previously unemployed people in his rural areas of operations. He has been the subject of many documentaries and publications, including NHK, in Japan, where a book published in Japanese was sold out on 3 print runs on Amazon Japan.

Mr Bovelander has worked for many years in forest industry consulting bringing a wealth of experience-based solutions to a broad range of client challenges from Asia, the Pacific and Oceania, to West Africa and South America. Specifically, Mr Bovelander’s bio solutions focus concentrates on leveraging new and traditional biobased products to meet the challenge of transforming industries and products to a net zero carbon emission environment. Focus is also on identifying and evaluating biomass feedstocks for energy generation, agricultural feedstocks for biofuels and bio based economies.
 
His work has included investigation into the development of short rotation woody crops in support of energy and industry initiatives and evaluating synergies between different biobased industries and traditional wood processing for the purpose of enhancing biobased product development. 
 
Other assignments include market research, feed stock assessment, technology evaluation, due diligence and project feasibility for a wide range of clients covering forest industry, investors, lenders, project developers and trading houses.

Ayo invests in the supply chain of forestry products from forestry development to wood pellet production. In collaboration with FutureMetrics, Ayo has developed a state-of-the-art wood pellet factory in Vietnam, on par with wood pellet producers in North America.

 

Dr. Tran is also a founding CTO of Koidra, a modern automation tech company headquartered in Seattle, USA. Previously, Dr. Tran worked at Microsoft Research, working on Machine Intelligence for Industries and Sustainability. Dr. Tran received his Ph.D. in Computational & Applied Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin in 2012.

He is well experienced in pelleting technology for all kinds of regional and common international raw materials as: Rubber wood, Acacia, Eucalyptus, regional mixed woods, Empty Fruit Bunches, Oil Palm Fronds, Bagasse, Rice Husk, straws, softwoods, hardwoods, etc and also torrefied biomasses.

He has 20 years’ experience of manufacturing and export of timber products to Europe and South Africa, and since 2014 has been involved in wood pellet production.

 

David oversaw the construction of Rainbow Pellet’s four pellet production facilities, which make the company the largest wood pellet producer in Malaysia. Managing the export of wood pellets to Europe and Asia is amongst David’s responsibilities.

 

Since 2019, David has been a committee member of the Timber Exporters Association of Malaysia.

 

David has a BSc in Marketing and Finance from the University of Bradford, UK.

Based out of the TSI headquarters near Seattle, WA, he has been with the company for 10 years. He is responsible for performing Mass and Energy balances to properly size their equipment for each specific application. James has performed many roles at TSI and has spent many years on jobsites, operating both TSI dryer systems and TSI Torreactors®. He also led up the R&D effort, operating their lab Torreactor® on multiple feedstocks at several levels of torrefaction from lightly torrefied product to biochar.

In 2017, he assumed position of head of power business in Middle East and Africa market. Assuming his current role at Marubeni in April 2020, he is now President & CEO of Marubeni Clean Power Corporation, which develop, invest and manage biomass power project in Japan. In addition, he has become the Chairman of the Biomass Power Association in June 2022.
He holds a BA in economics from Tokyo University.

His role revolves around building further on CM Biomass' presence in the Asian biomass market towards balancing supply and demand through flexible and efficient logistics solutions, in a market characterised by constant change and volatility, by adding value throughout the value chain from the suppliers to the end-users. With a strong diversified portfolio along with a continued growth of own pellet production in the US, CM Biomass is positioned to take expand its network in this region. 

 

Before joining CM Biomass, he spent 9 years working at Hanwa as one of the founding members of their Renewable Energy Department, in which he was responsible for the overall sourcing of biomass materials, and sales of biomass to regions out of Japan and Korea, as well as new project developments.
