Building Africa's Low-Carbon Cement Future: Logistics, Alternative Materials & Industrial Competitiveness
Africa's cement industry stands at a defining moment. As governments accelerate infrastructure development, urbanisation and industrialisation, cement producers are under increasing pressure to balance capacity growth with decarbonisation, energy security and operational competitiveness.
Against this backdrop, the 15th Africa CemenTrade Summit in Casablanca, Morocco bringing together cement manufacturers, policymakers, investors, technology providers, logistics specialists and sustainability leaders to explore the next phase of Africa's cement transformation.
The industry is witnessing significant investment across new production facilities, grinding plants, logistics infrastructure, renewable energy integration and digital manufacturing capabilities. At the same time, growing focus on carbon reduction, alternative fuels, clinker substitution and emerging low-carbon cement technologies is reshaping the future of cement production across the continent.
A major area of interest is the development and commercialisation of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) and other supplementary cementitious materials. With abundant clay resources available in many African markets, LC3 presents a practical pathway to reduce clinker content, lower emissions and enhance long-term competitiveness while supporting local value creation.
The summit will also examine how producers are scaling the use of alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR), integrating renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and responding to carbon-related regulations and export market requirements. Morocco itself has intensified efforts to decarbonise its cement sector through a national roadmap focused on alternative fuels, renewable energy, energy efficiency and clinker reduction, positioning the country as a regional leader in industrial decarbonisation.
Digitalisation will remain a key theme, with discussions covering AI-driven process optimisation, predictive maintenance, smart plant operations, advanced process control and data-driven decision-making to improve plant performance and profitability.
In addition, delegates will gain insights into the critical role of logistics, transport infrastructure and regional trade flows in shaping cement demand, market access and supply chain resilience across Africa's diverse and fast-growing markets.
Join senior industry leaders in Casablanca as they shape the future of Africa's cement industry and unlock opportunities for sustainable growth, innovation and decarbonisation through 2027 and beyond.
