Secured propylene supply is a vital concern for many industry players. Owing to strong demand growth, the derivative markets are competing fiercely to secure reliable sources. Propylene production is limited. Its output is linked to the production margins of other products – ethylene via steam cracking and gasoline production from fluid catalytic cracking (FCC). The strong growth of the deriatives sector calls for new methods of propylene production.
