There is an increasing demand for protein rich foods, paper and packaging solutions and renewable energy sources. Globally, consumers are demanding more vegetable proteins - driven by a growing world population. Plus the rising need for industrial starches used in packaging are changing product portfolios.
In order to address these demands, leading agri-business company Cargill plans to diversify its starches and sweeteners site in Krefeld, Germany. The company aims to transform the facility from corn to wheat processing and thereby diversify its product portfolio to vegetable wheat protein, specialized industrial wheat starches and advanced bio-fuels.
The transformation is intended to address the changing consumer needs in terms of nutrition, packaging and sustainable fuel not only in Germany but also in Europe. The transformation is expected to be completed in 2020.
Cargill’s Krefeld facility already produces high-quality starches and sweeteners from corn for a series of food, feed and industrial applications.
With this investment in the Krefeld plant, Cargill has demonstrated its support for the German economy and the German and European farming community.
