“PET players adapting to market challenges with new innovations”

“Optimising packaging structures in sync with the Circular Economy”

PET & feedstock prices have been on the upward trend driven by shortage in supply.  Paraxylene is now fetching Euro 817 tonne, a increase of Euro 57, as one manufacturer in France recently declared force majeure.

Generally towards the summer period, demand for PET will increase further fueled by higher demand for bottled water and beverages. Bottlers will need to replenish their stock levels. Sources in the market have commented that PET is currently in short supply and expensive

With the rise of virgin PET prices, the gap between rPET and VPET will become smaller at not too long – bringing fresh hopes for PET recycling business.

However , quality issues, relating to bales still remain a major area of difficulty and the high price of clean washed flake in relation to virgin PET resin creates financial problems with economics of upgrading the former to Food Grade RPET pellets.

The EU circular economy model is becoming more of a reality and it is the brandowners and retailers that are driving this.

How are the PET producers transitioning towards the circular economy ?  There needs to be flexibility, innovation, communication and collaboration to build a truly sustainable packaging supply chain.

How are PET converters, sheets producers  and thermoform tray producers adapting to this change ?

How will renewable resources perform given that crude oil prices are still low ?

Topical issues like these and more will be highlighted at CMT’s 18th Greater Europe PET (GEPET) which will be held this year in Barcelona Spain on the 27-28th of April.

Networking & Dinner for All Speakers & Delegates

at 2254 Restaurant Barcelona

18:00 - 22:30 hrs.

Just 5 minutes walk from the hotel is this gem Restaurant 2254 which pays homage to the Mediterranean coastline with Italian, French and Spanish cuisines.

2254 refers to the number of kilometres that separate Palermo from Barcelona by road and this is where the head chef Chef Nuncio Cona originated from.

The restaurant is full of allegories to the memory of its founders, both Chef's Nuncio Cona and General Manager (and wife) Irina. True values and life experiences are bedecked in every corner of this eating house. There is an indoor urban garden that covers the top part of a wall and the restaurant is serenaded with touching art works done by hand.
