Personal and Home Care segments will sustain growth of Surfactants market in Brazil and Argentina
Posted on : 17 Oct, 2013

The surfactants market in South American countries of Brazil and Argentina will be primarily sustained by end users segments – personal and home care, which is fuelled by an increase in FMCG purchase by the middle class. Apart from the HPC sector, other end user sectors such as mining and agrochemicals are also expected to help the surfactants industry grow in these two countries.

In a recent Analysis of Brazilian and Argentinian Surfactants Market by research firm – Frost & Sullivan, it’s stated that the surfactants market earned revenues worth $1.44 billion in 2012, which is expected to reach $1.96 billion in 2018. The study covered surfactants segments such as amphoteric, anionic, cationic, and nonionic.

Among these surfactants, it is anionic surfactants that has one of the highest demands and accounts for approximately 50 percent of the total market in Brazil and Argentina. The demand for anionic surfactantsprimarily comes from personal and household care segments. However, Frost & Sullivan Chemicals analysis expects cationic surfactants segment to expand at the fastest rate.

Although demand for surfactants is increasing, domestic surfactants manufacturers in Brazil and Argentina are witnessing a reduction in their margins, mainly due to rise in petroleum prices and high production and labour costs.

Another key trend that is observed in these countries is a shift towards natural, renewable, oleo-based products such as methyl ester sulfates from soy, palm oil or seed oil-based alcohol ethoxylates. Manufacturers in these countries are increasingly eliminating alkylphenol ethoxylates and nonylphenol ethoxylates from their formulations. This is not only because of environmental concerns but also because of the rapidly rising raw material prices of petroleum based derivatives.

Natural, Vegetable Ingredients Used to Develop Cosmetics
Posted on : 06 Sep, 2013

Latin America’s leading surfactants manufacture, Oxiteno, a chemical company, has recently launched a line of products developed from green emollients. Named OXISMOOTH™, this line of products consists of creams and sun protection lotions.

According to the company, the natural emollients provide pleasant sensory profiles for products such as body moisturizing lotions, after-shave and shower gels, and other skin-conditioning products. These products are also capable of solubilizing a wide range of sun protection products, which in turn protects the skin against the harmful UV rays.

The company’s decision to go use green emollients was based on a survey named ‘The Biodiversity Barometer 2012’. The survey analysed the general awareness related to biodiversity among consumers and found that 85% of participants actually search for natural ingredients in cosmetic products.

The company makes use of raw materials from renewable resources instead of synthetic inputs and petrochemical derivatives. It develops its products from vegetable-origin inputs. To do its bit for the environment, it uses application of concentrates and biodegradable products that reduce the use of energy, water and packaging. The company claims its products to promote health and wellbeing by making sure the end product are soft, cause low irritability and provide great performance.

CMT’s 3rd South America Surfactants HPC Markets, taking place on 02-03 Dec, 2013 in Sao Paulo discusses the ‘Latest technological innovations & raw materials solutions’.

Ingredientes naturais e vegetais utilizados no desenvolvimento de cosméticos
Posted on : 06 Sep, 2013
