Emerging Markets: Immense Potential
&
Growth Expected

"The multi-billion dollar beauty market in the Middle East's Gulf countries is back on an upward trend, thanks to renewed economic growth as this rich region with avid consumers start spending again. Demand for cosmetics and personal care products is being driven by high disposable incomes, new sales channels and a growing lifestyle trend among both men and women in terms of plastic surgery, personal fitness and body care."
[8 September 2011, cosmetics business]

"The beauty and personal care market experienced healthy growth of 14 percent in 2010 in India thanks to rising affluence and greater consciousness of personal image."

[12 November 2011, cosmeticsdesign-europe.com]

Emerging markets in the Middle East and India are witnessing strong growth in their home and personal care sector. The affluent middle class' appetites for personal care products continue to grow as they become more willing to spend on grooming and beauty products. Driven by economic growth, India's beauty and personal care showed double digit growth in 2010. Rural India accounts for 35-40% of consumption in personal care products and with increased awareness in hygiene, this will continue to drive demand in the market. This new trend will be covered at CMT's Surfactant HPC Dubai conference.

Like most of the world, consumer markets in Eastern Europe shuddered in the aftermath of the global economic crisis in 2009. However, personal care market growth, albeit slow, far exceeds the stagnant markets in developed countries. Poland is the highest importer in cosmetics products in eastern Europe. Find out from Farmona on the personal care market dynamics in this region, emerging trends and consumer preference.

The topic of sustainability and the use of biobased home care products are getting popular with consumers in these emerging regions. Although growth prospect remain modest as price is still the major concern with the users, green laundry care will be expected to become more mainstream. Hear from Novozymes A/S as they offer biobased solutions for laundry detergents, a sustainable alternative.

The French Chemical holding, Rhodia and Russian leading petrochemicals giant, Sibur have announced a joint venture to develop specialty surfactants for the CIS market. This 50:50 joint venture is expected to site local production in Russia at Dzerzhinsk, 400km east of Moscow, close to Sibur’s petrochemicals operations and is expected to start production in 2013.

The surfactants sector in the CIS region is growing at over 6% a year, fuelled in part by the evolution of consumer demand for more sophisticated and segmented products such as shampoos, conditioners and shower gels.
