Jochen has worked in various roles for well known companies like Haindl Papier, StoraEnso, Jaakko Pöyry, Valmet, Eduard Küsters, UPM Speciality Papers, Mitsubishi HiTec Paper, Smurfit Kappa, SCHELLING AG and Michelman.

 

Jochen is the author of more than 20 international publications in the field of paper, board and machinery related technologies.
In 2009 Jochen started his own engineering and consultancy company. From that time, he has focused on the development and implementation of sustainable, food safe packaging materials and functional coatings.

 

A joint cooperation with the Belgium company EURIKAS BV then developed in the field of bio-based waxes and materials. The resulting synergy has produced several pioneering plastic free packaging and material design solutions with more to come.

In his current role, Kainz takes primary responsibility for driving forward the development and technical support of DCM’s portfolio of barrier coating solutions, with a particular focus on barrier coating applications in the metal and fibre-based packaging market.

 

Since Kainz joined Dow in 1990, he has been influential in coatings research and application development for barrier coatings. He held various technical positions in Epoxy Resin Coatings before spearheading the development of novel DCM aqueous dispersion barrier coating technologies for the food and home & personal care packaging market. Throughout his career, he has authored more than 20 patents and commercialized more than 25 products.

 

Kainz holds a Master’s degree in both Chemistry and Economics, and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry and is a certified 6Sigma Black Belt. He is a member of the steering group of the 4evergreen cross-industry alliance as well as a key player in task force teams for national and international associations, including CEFIC EPDLA & FCA, Plastics Europe, the Joint Industry Group for metal packaging.

He was with Unilever in the UK, China and Germany for personal care and foods categories; and Gajanan had an early opportunity to be part of the sustainable packaging development like mono material, packaging that is fit for purpose and simplification.

 

He then joined British American Tobacco and was part of implementation of the Tobacco Product Directives (TPD) for other tobacco products (OTP) category for the EU markets through sustainable packaging development and pictorial health warnings.

 

Last seven years Gajanan was leading the packaging sustainability program at Nestle for foods category for several platforms like rigid plastics, paperization and molded fiber.  His involvement delivered the transformation of non-recyclable portfolio to recyclable and virgin plastic reduction through paperization and use of recycled content.

 

He joined Straumann Group, a global leader in dental implants and related technologies based in Basel, Switzerland, earlier this March as Senior Packaging Manager.  His current role includes leading the packaging sustainability and strategy in context of PPWR. 

 

Gajanan has his Masters in Packaging Technology from London based Brunel University.

Over the years, he gained expertise in testing packaging performance, with a main focus on barrier testing and shelf life prediction, as well as other key packaging parameters.

 

With the development of novel packaging materials, including paper-based barrier materials, he now focusses on the evaluation of the applicability of standard and common testing methods to such materials.

 

Besides his main activities, Yves is also Associate Editor for “Packaging Technology and Science”, Wiley; editorial board member for “Food Packaging and Shelf Life”, Elsevier; and Vice president of the “International Association of Packaging Research Institutes” (IAPRI).

DELSCI is developing next-generation, flexible packaging solutions for delfort, a global speciality paper manufacturer. Together with a team of scientists and product developers, DELSCI’s mission is to reinvent paper for sustainable barrier packaging applications. Herwig also campaigns for agile processes, open collaborations, and a design thinking mind-set in the industry.

 

Before working in the paper & packaging industry, Herwig was co-founder of an engineering and prototyping company and managed it from 2016-2019. From 2008 – 2016 he was Head of Business Development and Business Unit manager for fibre-composite products at a global player in the textile industry and from 2001 – 2008 he was responsible for Sales and Business Development for a global semiconductor equipment company.

 

Herwig holds a master degree in technical physics from the University in Graz/Austria and an MBA from the University of Krems/Austria. Herwig is a certified Agile Project Manager and Design Thinking Expert.

As a former research associate at the University of Applied Sciences Vienna, Charlotte focused on the recyclability and circularity of packaging. She later transitioned into consulting, joining Circular Analytics, where she now leads the Circularity team. In this role, she specializes in evaluating and optimizing packaging sustainability while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, Charlotte has been a Project Manager with 4evergreen for nearly three years, collaborating with over 100 companies to now develop already the third version of the Circularity by Design Guideline for fiber-based packaging.

From 2010-2014, she worked at the Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Office CVUA in Stuttgart in the department of commodities as a laboratory manager and project leader.  There she worked on several projects on the topic of food contact materials with an analytical and food law focus. Since mid-2014, she has been employed at PTS as a project manager. Her task was the expansion and supervision of the gas chromatographic and instrumental analytical measurement laboratory with a focus on food contact materials. Here she was in charge of various research projects. Since 2015, she has been Head of the Materials Testing & Analytics Business Unit at PTS, responsible for services (especially within the scope of ISO 17025) and research projects related to measurement and testing - from raw materials to finished products. She is active in various committees of DIN/CEN Paper, Board, Fibers as well as the Commodities Committee of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR, BeKo), the Paper Committee of the BfR and the industry alliance 4Evergreeen.
