Dr Cedric Dever is specialized in polymer chemistry and has now more than 20 years of expertise in the field of renewable plastics. After a PhD in polymer chemistry in France and a postdoctoral position in Australia, Cedric started his career as the scientific manager of a private research center dedicated to the valorization of biomass into plastics and biofuels. After 3 years in Danone, one of the world leader in food packaging, developing bioplastics packaging, he is now in Ikea since 2018 and in charge of developing bioplastics solutions for all ikea products.

Assoc. Prof. Klanarong Sriroth has involved in sugar and starch industry for more than 35 years after his graduation “Doctor of Engineering in Sugar Technology/Biotechnology” from the Technical University of Berlin in 1986.  He was one of the key persons who established the public awareness for the significant roles of Science & Technology to strengthen the competitiveness of Thai agro industry, in particular sugar industry. Through his long accumulated experience in academic researches and collaborative works with industrial sectors, he currently serves as a technical committee in many National Boards concerning cassava, sugar and bioethanol. He is also a director and Head of Innovation and Research Development Institute in Mitr Phol Sugar Corp., Ltd.

Karsten Vijge – a Dutch National – with a Masters from Tilburg University’s Economics Faculty and an Executive Master in Finance and Control from Maastricht University. In his 10 years at DSM he has held various Finance Leadership positions, most recently as Finance Director Asia, for the DSM Engineering Plastics Division based from Tokyo. Stefano Facco is New Business Development Director of Novamont SpA as well as the managing director of the German subsidiary of Novamont, which is based in Eschborn. He has held this position since 1997, following six years as Product Development Manager for Montedison Deutschland, where he worked on the market introduction of biofuels and biopolymers. Earlier, he had worked there on liquid crystal polymers for electronic applications like PCB and speciality fibres for EMI shielding . The first stages of his career were interspersed with two stints at the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Germany, as consultant for EDP and marketing issues and lately as Managing Director. He was for over a decade member of the board and co-founder of EuBP, the European Bioplastics Association and  former member of the Din “ biodegradable polymers”  working group. Stefano Facco was born in Hong Kong 1963, went to High School in Germany and Austria, has a background in economics.

She has initiated and overseen several innovations to make wastewater treatment energy en resource neutral together with industry and knowledge institutes. She has worked for 15 years for several consultancies. The past 10 years she is working as innovation manager at a water authority in the Netherlands.

Nopadol Suanprasert received his B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and an MBA from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He worked in Australia for Unilever Australia Pty.,Ltd. Then he emigrated to Canada where he worked for Nortel Canada. After many years in Canada he returned to Thailand, his home country. In Thailand, he worked for industries and development finances. Among them were the UK’s Commonwealth Development Corporation, the Canadian International Development Agency. His career path changed when Thailand was building the second Bangkok international airport. He was appointed by the Ministry of Transport to be the Executive Vice President of the state enterprise (NBIA) that constructed the airport until completion. Then his career changed for the second time when the Thai government implemented a large scale project to grow rubber in the north and northeastern region of Thailand. He was appointed by the Ministry of Agricultures to be the Director General of the state enterprise (ORRAF) that implement the project. This was where he learnt about  bioplastics and conducted field applications with rubber planting. The rubber expansion project put Thailand’s natural rubber as the biggest producer. Natural rubber is Thailand’s first product champion.
 
After finishing his term at the state enterprise, he started Global Biopolymers to do business in bioplastics. He envisages that bioeconomy, in particular, bioplastics will be Thailand’s second  product champion following natural rubber.

CHINA’S GREEN REVOLUTION: DRIVING THE FUTURE OF BIOPLASTICS MARKET

Yun-xuan WENG is a professor at the School of Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering at Beijing Technology & Business University. His research is mainly focused on durability, degradation and sustainable development of polymeric materials. He acts as secretary-general of the Degradable Plastic Committee of CPPIA of China, and also as secretary-general of the Technology Committee of Standardization of Biobased and Degradable Materials.

He organized to formulate a number of national standards for food direct contact packaging materials, such as plastic wrap, plastic shopping bags, continuous roll bags, disposable tableware and other national standards. He promoted the establishment of the standard of bio-based materials and biodegradable plastics industry standard system and promoted the production and application of industrial scale. The technical cooperation on the production of biodegradable plastic film bag and tableware and other products has been carried out with a number of production enterprises.

More than 60 periodicals, such as SCI and EI, are published, and 20 national standards and 2 books are made. The project includes the national natural fund project, the national quality inspection public welfare project and the support plan of the Ministry of science and technology. 2 awards were awarded for the standard innovation contribution of General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine, and 2 of the scientific and technological innovation awards of China National Light Industry Council.

Davies is responsible for the Performance Packaging Business at NatureWorks, a company formed with the mission of bringing to global markets a broad family of naturally advanced, renewably sourced, materials.  He regularly represents the broader bioplastics industry, providing a provocative perspective on functional materials innovation to audiences that span from manufacturers, to trade associations, consumer brands, and policy makers.
In his 14 years with the company, he most recently led NatureWorks Public Affairs function, defining the company’s cradle-to-cradle strategy, including renewable feedstocks sourcing and strategy and product recovery strategies, and managing the company’s industry and stakeholder relations, external communications and media relations. Previously as NatureWorks’ global marketing director, Steve was responsible for market development with Ingeo plastics in rigid and flexible packaging, food service-ware and durable goods, and with Ingeo fibers in apparel, personal care, home and garden.

Erol BEYATLI joined Synvina as Business Manager in 2017 and leading the business development and marketing strategies of FDCA and PEF applications. Erol has 15+ years of experience in global polymer (the big 5) and plastic packaging industries with business development, sales and sourcing positions. He started his carrier in polymers at DuPont Turkey, in Pet Packaging Division, where he handled most of the major global brandowner accounts as a key account manager, then he resumed his carrier as country manager in Romania within the same company. Erol holds bachelor degree in International Business and Marketing from Istanbul University and he currently lives in Amsterdam.
