Jamie Fortescue, British, born 1966, joined the European Starch Industry Association, Starch Europe, in January 2012 as its managing director. Supported by a team of five staff, his role is to represent the interests of EU starch producers to the EU institutions and other EU stakeholders.

From 2014-2011, Jamie was the Director General of Spirits Europe, the trade association representing EU spirits drinks producers. Prior to that, he was the director for international corporate affairs at the employment agency, Randstad, based in Amsterdam (1997-2004) and an account director at the public affairs consultancy, EPPA, based mainly from their offices in London and Brussels, but also Madrid and Warsaw (1992-1997). Before becoming involved in EU public affairs, Jamie worked in third world development (at London based Planco Consulting from 1989-91, and as a trainee at DG Development of the European Commission from 1988-89). Jamie was educated at Eton College and the University of East Anglia, and has a degree in French and Economics.

Simon has 18 years of experience analysing and understanding commodity markets. He is a director of Commoditia, an advisory business based in Singapore focussed on supporting investors in, and traders and processors of South East Asian commodities.

Previously, as a Vice President of Invenio, part of Olam International, Mr Bentley led the research for a macro commodity fund trading agricultural commodity futures using fundamental models. Before this, and as a Director of LMC International, Mr Bentley led for many years a team advising multinational agribusinesses, energy and chemical companies, as well as governments, on all aspects of carbohydrate and protein markets. Through many different assignments he has developed a deep understanding of the fundamental structural factors underpinning agricultural commodity prices, costs, trade and production, which he uses to help clients position themselves in the face of changing market conditions.

Mr Bentley is a graduate of Trinity College, Oxford University and the London School of Economics

Andrew joined the European Snacks Association (ESA) as a Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Manager in 2008 and has played a leading role in developing, and promoting the use of, the FoodDrinkEurope 'Acrylamide Toolbox'.

This guidance summarises tried and tested 'tools' that food manufacturers could potentially apply to their products to help mitigate against formation of this process contaminant. In 2017 the tools were successfully introduced into a ground-breaking piece of EU legislation which applies from April 2018.

In addition to his work for ESA, Andrew is the Director General of the UK Potato Processors Association, which also represents manufacturers of fresh and chilled potato products.

Before joining the snacks industry, Andrew worked for the Food and Drink Federation, specialising in food hygiene, contaminants, and food contact materials, and the British Standards Institution, working on quality and environmental assurance schemes including for ISO 22000, ISO 9000, ISO 14001, EMAS verification, and CE marking

Erkki Pöytäniemi has a MSc in Agronomy from Helsinki University and has worked all his career in organic farming and food business and has worked in export and trade since 1996. Currently his main occupation is as Export Director at organicpotatostarch.com with Aloja Starkelsen Ltd from Latvia and Finnamyl Ltd from Finland. He also works with Fazer Mills from Finland for export of organic milled oats. He is member of the IFOAM EU Interest Group for Organic Processing and very well networked in the organic food business and movement. He lives with his wife on a 12 hectare off-grid smallholding in Southern Finland trying to develop a sustainable lifestyle

Born and grown in a bakery that was making the transition of medium sized to industrial bakery, Jos finished his MSc in Technical Business Sciences at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in 2004. Via a long list of various operational and management functions he became responsible for R&D and Quality, where the idea of founding Bakery Academy sprouted.
Started Bakery Academy in 2009, connecting the dots between theory and practical applications in problem solving and product development. Has a serious track record on reformulation of products, which amongst others resulted in:
- Less sugar, fat and sodium
- Different grains and cereals up to gluten free
- Enrichment with fibres and/ or proteins
- Cleaning up the labels
Working in Bakery Academy with 4 colleagues from their own Application & Innovation Centre for clients all over the world, making bakery science & technology applicable for them. We continue yearly in personal and company development in the field by exploring apparently unsolvable problems in ingredients & processes and conducting private research & development.

She is the head of Agrifood engineer specialty and of the Food Science platform, a structure devoted to the transfer of knowledge between public research and the private sector. Over the past 11 years, she built a strong experience in the nutritional optimisation of food products and food formulation.

Kirsty Black, is both Manager and Distiller at Arbikie Highland Estate.  She has been there since the distillery conception in 2014, overseeing all aspects of its conversion from a disused cattle shed to a multi award-winning distillery production vodka, gin and whisky.  Following obtaining a BSc in Plant Science, a PG Dipl. in Forensic Science and nearly 10 years working as an engineer in the Medical Device Industry the time had come to learn about alcohol. She graduated in Brewing & Distilling at Heriot-Watt University obtaining an MSc with distinction, The Watt Club Postgraduate Medal for best in school and the Brewers Company Prize for best in class.   In conjunction with working at Arbikie Distillery she is an examiner for the Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) and is conducting her PhD studies in Abertay University and the James Hutton Institute, researching both the potential to use legumes in intercropping systems and the conversion of the resulting crops into beverage grade alcohol

Egon Bech Hansen is a professor in microbial food ingredients at the Technical University of Denmark.
Professor Hansen has considerable expertise within the field of food enzymes and microbial food cultures.
He is currently coordinating the project “PROVIDE”, which is a collaborative project with participation from two universities and five companies aiming at the development of technologies for valorization of proteins through identifying and releasing imbedded functionalities.
He has previously held positions as Vice President for R&D in two different food ingredients companies, Danisco A/S and Chr Hansen A/S.

Sanyasi graduated from Andhra University in India and did his post-graduation in Microbiology, receiving his PhD in 2007 from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at University of Nottingham from 2007-2015.
During that time, he managed research projects funded by both academia and industry mainly involving processing of biopolymers, especially on starches and hydrocolloids.
He joined Nestlé in 2015 as an Ingredient Specialist in Starches and Hydrocolloids at PTC Singen, Germany. In January 2018, he was nominated as Corporate R&D Ingredient Advisor for Starches. He contributes to and support Innovation and Renovation projects by evaluating new starch-based ingredients and deploying them in their products.

Before joining Rabobank in 2005, he worked for the Agricultural office of the Dutch Embassy in Rome for bilateral relations in food and agribusiness sectors. He also advised the Italian Ministry of Agriculture for promotion and quality of the Italian food in the world market. Previously he had been employed by McDonald’s Italy in Milan working in the marketing research.
He holds a degree in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan (Italy) and an International Ph.D. from Faculty of Agriculture of University of Basilicata (Italy) in cooperation with Wageningen University (the Netherlands).

Mr. Peter Boschma (1967) is a Sr. Director Sales & Marketing at Larsson Sweden. He obtained his Master’s in Economics at the State University of Groningen in The Netherlands.  Mr. Boschma started his career at the global top 3 audit firms of Coopers & Lybrand. 1996 he joined AVEBE, worlds’ largest potato starch & potato starch derivatives producer. He headed AVEBEs’ first green field project abroad, a (modified) cationic cassava starch plant in West Java, Indonesia.  During these years he was also member of the regional AVEBE Management Team in Singapore. Back on the base in the Netherlands he got responsible for several investment studies and business cases, and he developed a broad and in-depth know how regarding the economics of starch and derivatives operations. 2002 he entered the field of Marketing & Sales, starting in the booming niche market of bio-plastics and subsequently headed the sales of AVEBE starch derivatives into the global textiles industry. 2005 he made a side step to Dutch Royal Philips. 2007 he turned back into the industry of starch and sweeteners joining GEA Hovex in the Netherlands as an MD. Since September this year he is in the Larsson team.
