Ms. Dershana Valla

https://www.cmtevents.com/EVENTDATAS/180925/speakers/DershanaVala.jpgDershana Valla has a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Microbiology from the University of the Witwatersrand and also a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the same University. She has a Diploma in Cosmetic Science.
 
Dershana Valla started her career as a Microbiologist, in 1996 in the Pharmaceutical Industry, where she was involved in drug efficacy testing and environmental management. In 1997, she joined Avon, in the same capacity. Her experience in the pharmaceutical environment placed her in good stead to contribute positively to this organisation. During her employment, she went on to fill the position of the Quality Control and Quality Assurance Managers. Her duties included reforming the organisation to gain international recognition within the cosmetic industry. This involved implementing various quality systems and conferencing with global  counterparts on best practices.  To broaden her horizon, she joined one of the largest multinational Colour manufacturing companies in 2006, as a Technical Manager, at Sensient Colors South Africa. Her role included increasing the footprint in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and household industries.


In June 2016, she joined the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association of South Africaf as the Regulatory Affairs Manager. Her current role includes training, customer service, lobbying and stakeholder engagement on regulatory and technical matters within the cosmetic sector, both at a national and an international level. She is also intimately involved in local government engagement including impact assessments and global convergence on regulatory matters. Her daily work includes advising industry on matters relating to the local and international regulatory frameworks.

Mr. Waseem Jeenah

Waseem has had a short but experience filled career thus far, completing his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Cape town in 2013.

 

From there his career in packaging began, in 2014 he was instrumental in designing packaging, including the new Sunlight Dishwash bottle, for the new Unilever Liquids factory. From there he went on to become commissioning engineer for the new factory in Boksburg. He then moved to the UK where he was responsible for the OMO brand globally. In 2016 he returned to South Africa to take up his current position where he has driven the Unilever Sustainable packaging agenda in line with the companies ambitions.

From 1990 he was employed as a chemist in the R&D Department in AECI , South Africa.  He entered the cosmetic field in 1995, when, after initial training in Paris, for the next ten years he worked as a chief chemist of  L’Oreal, South Africa (ElaBelle and Carson). Afterward he shortly worked as the R&D manager of AMKA .

 

In 2006 he founded his own company, AMB Cosmetics, cc, focusing on African Ethnic hair R&D and technological consultancy. Activity: 23 years experience in cosmetic industries within but also behind borders of  South Africa including Nigeria, DRC, Malawi, Ivory Coast and Angola.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in biodiversity and an MBA cum laude from the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

 

In 2009, he co-founded Botanica in rural Limpopo Province, and he has been involved in every step of the development of the company- from establishing the plantation, designing the factory and processes, and finally to developing the markets for its unique products. Over the past 10 years, Will has successfully introduced Botanica’s products to markets throughout the world including Europe, Asia and West Africa.

Annabel is the holder of the Sake/Beeld Economist of the Year title for 2010 and has won numerous monthly Reuters Econometer awards, and various Focus Economics (Economic Forecasts from the World’s Leading Economists) categories for correctly forecasting a range of economic variables.
