Neil is Chief Executive Officer of Chayton Capital. He joined Chayton Capital from Goldman Sachs where he was a Partner Managing Director. Most recently, Neil was Co-Head of European Research and Co-Chief Operating Officer of the Global Investment Research Division. Additionally, he served on the firm's Commitments Committee.

 

Prior to Goldman Sachs, Neil worked for American Express and St. Paul Companies gaining both direct and indirect real estate investment and workout experience. He received a BA from Knox College, an MSIA from Carnegie Mellon University, and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) charterholder.

Andy Watt is Head of Large Scale Farming, Africa, responsible for the development of the Crop Protection and Seed business for Syngenta on large scale farms across Africa.

An agriculturalist with over 30 years of service with Syngenta, Andy has broad commercial experience; having served as Head of Marketing in Eastern Europe, France & in the UK. He was Market manager for Southern Europe and at the start of Syngenta was Global Customer Relationship Manager (CRM). Andy has broad business development experience, especially in emerging markets and deep knowledge of both large scale commercial and small-scale farming. Andy has experience as a presenter and panellist in international forums and has participated as a panel member at the World Economic Forum for Africa alongside the Prime Minister for Kenya and as a speaker at Agricultural Investment forums in Tanzania and Egypt.

 

Outside Syngenta Andy serves as the Chair of the SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) Kenya, Business Advisory Council and as a Member of the Local management committee of PACN (Pan African Chemistry Network) a joint initiative sponsored by Syngenta and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Andy is also Captain of Golf at Karen Country Club. He’s married with three children, and has been living in Kenya for the past 4 years and intends to make his Karen residence his permanent home.

Bernard is currently a director in the Global Agricultural Corporate Business at SwissRe.
Bernard holds a Msc. in Agronomy from ETHZ, Zurich and MBA from (IMD), Switzerland. He lives in Zurich with his wife and 3 children.

AMC is an Australian based company specialising in the management of agricultural businesses and rural property for agri-investors. AMC has offices in Brisbane, Sydney and a representative in Egypt. Charlie has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and formal Financial Planning qualifications with KAPLAN professional. Charlie has grass roots experience in managing large scale agricultural operations including 150,000 beef cattle and 45,000 hectares of broadacre cropping. His experience includes a range of on-farm management positions in northern Australia, corporate agricultural management roles and agricultural board positions. Charlie is a board member of AMC, the Agribusiness Association of Australia and the Future Farmers Network. He has presented at a number of agricultural conferences and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Australian Financial Review as well as other business and rural publications.

Dr. Theo de Jager is the Deputy President of AgriSA since 2008 & he served as President of Agri Limporo from 2007-200 & a Executive member of Agri Letaba from 2003-2007. He was the Chairman of the Trichardtsdal farmer association from 2000-2007 & has farmed in the Tzaneen district since 1997.

 

Dr. Theo de Jager obtained his BA Political Science from Stellenbosch in 1984, BA (Hons) Philosophy & MA Philosophy in Pretoria (Cum Laude) in 1985 & 1986 respectivly. He completed his D Phil Philosophy in Pretoria in 1988 on "Black Consciousness".

 

He is the co-owner of a real estate agency, compost plant and local newspaper in Tzaneen and Hoedspruit. He begins his career with the South African Air Force in 1981 for a year and his career path includes joining the National intelligence Service from 1984-2001, Chief information co-ordinator in the office of the State President from 1987-1989, Negotiation Consultant for Gencor, Nuclear Energy Corporation from 1991-1997.

 

He has contributed to seven solo volumes in the book of verse.

Stuart Shepherd studied Analytical Chemistry at the Cape Town University of Technology in 1973. He was instrumental in the formation of one of the first private Agricultural Laboratories in South Africa for the Fedmis Fertilizer Company where he worked and managed the Agri Lab for 28 years. He then moved to the newly formed Central Agricultural Laboratory in the Western Cape where he spent the next 10 years developing the lab into one of the biggest in Southern Africa. He is now employed by SGS in South Africa to head their Agricultural Laboratory in Cape Town.

Dr Johnson Irungu Waithaka is the Director of Agriculture, Crop Management with the Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya since 2008. He obtained his BSc in Agronomy from the University of Nairobi in 1989 and his PhD in Soil Science from the University of Reading in 1998.

 

From 1988 - 2001, he worked as a Principal Research Scientist with Kenya Agricultural Research Institute and from 2001-2008, he was the Agriculture Program Manager with the Catholic Relief Services, Kenya.

Simon Kitchen is a senior economist and equity strategist at EFG-Hermes, the leading investment bank in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He joined the bank in 2007, and he is responsible for covering economies in North Africa and the Levant and is part of the MENA equity strategy team. He has been covering the Egyptian economy and market since 1999.

 

He previously worked for Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy in New York, advising investors on risks in the Middle East from 2001. Simon received an Masters in International Relations from Columbia University in New York in 2003, and an undergraduate MA from Edinburgh University in Scotland in 1996.

Mr. Hicham RHAZRI rose through the ranks of the Ministry of Economics and Finances from 1999 on, starting out as Head of Budget for the Ministry of Agriculture in the Budget Department, then as Head of the Budget Control Service, also in the Budget Department.

 

Before joining the Agency of Agricultarl Development as the Administrative and Financial Director, Mr. Hicham RHAZRI was Head of the Budget and Accounting Department at the Department for Business and General Affairs in the Ministry of Economics and Finances.

Justin Vermaak is the founder and CEO of the Verus Group, a South African based company formed in 1993 which operated and manages structured agriculture supply chains in the feed and food industries of several African countries. Over the years the Group has added bio-energy and corporate farming to its repertoire and in 2006 joined forces with the Tanzanian based Export Trading Group and others to form Bio-Energy Investments (BEI). The Larger group today operates over the whole farming chain and has sizable holdings in fertilizer plants, farming agro processing, packing and distribution.

 

Over the last 16 years, Justin has gained experience in the whole Agri & Bio-Energy supply chains including primary production of feedstock, processing & value adding, funding & risk management, marketing and logistics in several countries including Africa, South America and Eatern Europe. As CEO of BEI, Justin is currently responsible for the Group's corporate farming projects BEI has taken in Investors from both private equity side as well as corporate institutions. BEI is currently is developing several projects which include, cereals, livestock and palm plantations. The group has interests in bio-refineries before and still have interests in emerging crops like Jatropha, Moringa and other.


Justin is one of the world leading entrepeneurs that has displayed a clear understanding of the integration of the Agri_supply chain with huge focus on markets before production.

.Zhann Meyer is the Regional Head for Commodity Traders and Agriculture for Africa with a mandate to promote and expand the Bank's Agricultural Strategy on the continent. Zhann joined the Bank in 2006 as Director of Agriculture for Standard Chartered Bank's Wholesale Banking Division. Zhann brings invaluable knowledge and experience to this critical sector, having structured financial products for participants across the supply chain in the agricultural and soft commodity arena, for over 13 years.


Zhann was instrumental in structuring and implementing an innovative Agricultural Input Finance Model during his employment with Absa Bank in 1997. This model steered away from conventional balance sheet lending for commercial agricultural producers, opting to rather assess the producers' ability to farm on a contractual basis. The Input Financing Model expanded into a world-first in terms of its ability to release conventional security to generate further benefits for commercial farmers at large. Zhann has presented and introduced the model to agricultural producers and cooperatives as far a field as Sao Paulo, Panama and Alabama in the USA.


Since joining Standard Chartered, Zhann has successfully implemented and exponentially expanded this model for cereals, fruit and even livestock in a number of African Countries, with over 400,000 hectares of commercial farmland now being cultivated through this innovative structure.


Zhann is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has served his articles as an Audit Manager at KPMG in South Africa. He is registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Ashraf El Attal graduated from Alexandria University with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1985. He then joined a family business in the field of textiles before spending 6 years with Schlumberger as an international staff. In 1992, he founded Egyptian Traders Co. , one of the major trading houses in Egypt and the Middle East, trading grains locally and internationally.

 

He is the Immediate Past President of the Grain and Feed Trade Association (GAFTA) in London. Mr. El Attal was also a board member of Egyptian Businessmen's Association (EBA)from 2005 to 2009. Currently, he is a member of the Egyptian-French Presidential Business Council as well as the World Economic Forum.
