Optional Site Visit to
Azcapotzalco Transfer Station and Sorting Plant

29 October | 13:40 - 17:00 hrs.
Max capacity : 30 persons (seats on first-come-first-served basis)

This plant operates through a combination of mechanical, optical, and manual sorting systems. Its primary objective is to promote the circular economy in Mexico City through three main channels:

  1. Sale of Recyclable Materials: Recovered by-products are compacted and auctioned to partner recycling companies for reintroduction into production chains.
  2. Production of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF): Non-recyclable inorganic material with a high calorific value is processed and shredded to supply industries, such as cement plants, which use it as an alternative energy source.
  3. Organic Waste Management: Clean, segregated biological waste is sent exclusively to local composting facilities.
