Brand owner – PepsiCo has set a new target to reduce 35% of virgin plastic content across its beverage portfolio by 2025. This is equivalent of 2.5 million metric tons of cumulative virgin plastic.
PepsiCo plans to increase use of recycled content and alternative packaging materials for its beverage brands such as LIFEWTR, bubly and Aquafina.
It also plans to expand its SodaStream business enabling the brand to avoid 67 billion plastic bottles through 2025.
Some of the efforts that PepsiCo is taking includes – relaunching Tropicana in Western Europe, with 50% rPET bottles and aims to reach 100% rPET by 2025. In the US, PepsiCo's premium water brand LIFEWTR will be packaged in 100% rPET.
These initiatives aim to meet PepsiCo’s 2025 sustainability goals – to make 100% of its packaging recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable; and increase its use of recycled content in plastics packaging to 25%.
