Envision Plastics has secured an approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use OceanBound plastic (its post-consumer resins) in food packaging.
Envision launched OceanBound plastic in 2017 to retrieve post-consumer plastics at its source. It has partnered with several local communities to recover waste plastic before it gets into the ocean.
Today, Envision uses its global supply chain and manufacturing capabilities to convert these waste plastic materials into what it calls - OceanBound Plastic, a resin that Envision claims can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing processes.
FDA has issued a letter of non-objection to OceanBound Plastic’s suitability at levels as high as 100% in recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packaging for all food types.
Envision produces EcoPrime – a product made from recycled food and beverage packaging that undergoes a patented cleaning process has met FDA requirements for food packaging since 1988.
Find out more about use of recycled materials in food packaging at CMT’s Recycled Packaging for Food Contact Summit on 18-19 September, 2019 in Brussels, Belgium.
