Algeria’s port of Djendjen, located approximately 10 kilometers from the city of Jijel, is expected to become a major export hub for cement in Africa.
The port is already used by many cement producers in Africa to export cement. In 2018, the port saw about 500,000 tonnes of cement being exported. Some of the cement companies using the port of Djendjen in 2018 were Groupe industriel des ciments d’Algérie (GICA), LafargeHolcim and Alegria’s Biskria Cement.
As cement exports are expected to manifold via the port in 2019, with some estimates saying it will reach a total of 2.5 million tonnes. One of the companies expected to export cement via the port is ETRHB Haddad (Entreprise des travaux routiers, hydrauliques et bâtiments) that operates a 2 million tonnes per year cement plant in Djelfa, Algeria. The company has already received a concession for the storage of cement to be exported from the port of Djendjen, however, the contract is not yet signed.
