BUA Cement Plans Major Capacity Expansion in Nigeria
Posted on : 02 Apr, 2018
Nigeria’s major cement producer – BUA Cement has significantly increased its cement production capacities in Nigeria. In 2017, the cement producer inaugurated a $1billion second cement line at its Obu Cement factory in Okpella, Edo State that will have 3 million tonnes of capacity. BUA Cement already runs a 3 million tonnes capacity line at the Obu plant.
BUA has also started the construction of a greenfield cement plant in Sokoto State with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes costing over $300 million. With these, BUA will have invested over $2 billion in the Nigerian cement industry with capacities in excess of over 12 million tons per annum within a decade’s time.
BUA Cement is confident with the addition of these plants, Nigeria will be close to self-sufficiency in the near term. The capacity expansion will also help Nigeria’s cement exports potential.
