Following the first floating wind farm auction off Goto City announced in June 2020, Japan further ink its commitment in offshore wind growth by launching the first tender at four areas off the country’s coast last December.  The tender covers Noshiro City, Mitane Town and Oga City, and Yurihonjo City off the coast of Akita Prefecture and Choshi City off Chiba Prefecture.
 
Japan aims to expand its offshore wind power installed capacity to 10 GW by 2030 and 30 to 45 GW by 2040. 
 
Developments are in the pipeline as interested parties get ready with bids.  Domestic Japanese and foreign are partnering to form stronger competence outfits for this accelerated demand for renewable energy.
