As countries announced monetary and fiscal stimulus measures to revive economic recovery, thereafter, would see a proliferation of antidumping duty to protect domestic businesses. China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on 8 June, a five-year extension of anti-dumping duties on acetone imports from Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. The duties are set at 4.3-12.1% for imports. The move comes amid strong acetone prices since April, mainly because of high demand for isopropanol (IPA), a key raw material for disinfectant production.
Also in April, Deepak Phenolics started production of IPA from Acetone at its plant in Dahej, Gujarat, India, significantly reducing the country’s dependence on imports.
