“Changing Trade Flows Amid Excess Capacities
& Economic Uncertainty!”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and its related travel restrictions we are transforming into a Virtual 17th Phenol/Acetone & Derivatives Summit. Be assured the virtual event will deliver exceptional content with our Leading Global Industry Panel. It is even more vital we continue to connect during these challenging times !

COVID-19 has disrupted global economic growth across all industries including the Phenol/Acetone & Derivatives sectors.  However, the crisis not only negatively impacted the downstream market but also created new opportunities. Find out more.

As countries announced monetary and fiscal stimulus measures to revive economic recovery, thereafter,  would see a proliferation of antidumping duty to protect domestic businesses. China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on 8 June, a five-year extension of anti-dumping duties on acetone imports from Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. The duties are set at 4.3-12.1% for imports. The move comes amid strong acetone prices since April, mainly because of high demand for isopropanol (IPA), a key raw material for disinfectant production.

Also in April, Deepak Phenolics started production of IPA from Acetone at its plant in Dahej, Gujarat, India, significantly reducing the country’s dependence on imports.

“The boom in demand for isopropanol (IPA), pharma-grade ethanol and other sanitizing products will be permanent amid an increased focus on domestic and workplace hygiene, according to the CEO of Dutch distributor Caldic”

Asia leads with the largest Polycarbonate capacity additions for the next 3 years. China’s capacity of 2.24mtpa is the largest from 13 planned and announced plants. However are there any changes to these investments with the Covid 19 pandemic ?

Phenol producers need to assess the fast moving changes from the COVID-19 pandemic to the phenol and downstream sectors: Chart the Recovery & Ensure near-term Strategies in response to this disruption.
