Mr. Morris Bitzer

Morris BitzerMorris J. Bitzer is State Extension Specialist for corn, soybeans, small grains, grain sorghum and sweet sorghum production. He is now on Post Retirement Appointment as Sweet Sorghum Breeder for Univ. of Kentucky.


He has received many awards for outstanding service to Kentucky Agriculture, Certificate of Excellence for Development of Agronomic Educational Material for Video “Sweet Sorghum Syrup Production” by American Society of Agronomy , significant contribution to the advancement of no-till agriculture. December 12, 2003 ,inducted into the Kentucky Corn Growers Association Hall of Fame among many other awards


Other activities associated with sweet sorghum he was involved in include

  1. Wrote by-laws for organizing the Kentucky Corn Growers Association, Kentucky Sweet Sorghum Association, National Sweet Sorghum Association, American Kenaf Association and Sweet Sorghum Ethanol Association.
  2. Increased membership in NSSPPA from 110 in 2001 t0 525 in 2008.
  3. Main supplier of seed of many varieties of sweet sorghum to producers in USA and many other countries particularly for ethanol production.
