China was until recently the largest importer of PVC. But with domestic production increasing over the last 10 years, volumes of imports declined while export values increased. The country is evolving into a net exporter as investment in capacity outstrips growth in domestic demand.

China’s exports really hit the international arena last year, which pushes exporters of PVC to other parts of the world, and impact chlorine market balances in every region. It’s clear that within a fairly short time, China will not only be selling finished goods around the world, there will also be a substantial outflow of resin.

However, heavy investment in new PVC capacity continues in China. China leads the world in both production and consumption of PVC, and demand will rise 8% annually through 2010. Construction will remain the largest application due to the country’s construction boom. At our CMT 7th Asia Chlor-Vinyls Conference, you will meet with professionals to learn the country’s highly active construction sector and meet with end-users from plastic pipe, window profiles and wire & cable to learn about their demand and requirements for PVC.

China has overtaken the United States as the world’s largest chlor-alkali supplier, and will increasingly be dominant over the next five years as new capacity starts up. Production and consumption of salt in China is also increasing. PVC is currently the primary driver for salt demand growth in China. The growth of downstream industries will also affect chlor-alkali, supply-demand balances in China. CMT’s 7th Asia Chlor-Vinyls Conference will update you with the latest market trends on feedstocks of PVC.

China’s rapidly increasing capacity for both acetylene-based and ethylene-based PVC started exerting downward pressure on PVC prices during the later half of 2005. This conference will discuss the cost structure / economics comparison of carbide vs ethylene based PVC production.

China may be getting the most attention, but there are plenty of expansion projects going on in other parts of the world. The supply-demand dynamics in South East Asia, Middle East & western countries are quite different. For example, Pakistan became a net importer of PVC this year due to a 20% surge in domestic demand, mainly from the construction sector; yet in America, the result of US mid-term congressional election may change the US energy policy and output decisions. CMT’s 7th Asia Chlor-Vinyls Conference brings together key industry players from different regions to address the latest emerging issues.

At this conference, you will listen to Chinese and regional PVC producers share their expansion plans and strategies; evaluate the feedstock situation; meet PVC peers from around the world and hear from end-users in the different sectors. Other key highlights of the conference include:

  • Global Vinyl industry outlook
  • Chlorine & Caustic outlook & challenges in Asia/China
  • Potential of plastic recycling
  • Latest innovations in plastic additives
