"Transforming Myanmar into the next manufacturing powerhouse!"

Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) has granted approval to more than 100 foreign investment businesses last year, including auto manufacturing, beer, cigarette, home appliance, medicine, bamboo fiber, decorated roof and consumer food productions. Also, 40 foreign manufacturers are keen to set up in the Thilawa economic zone and production could begin in 2015 with companies producing clothing, foodstuff, electronic appliances, toiletries and car parts.

“Hong Kong textile manufacturers move production to Myanmar. Hong Kong textile manufacturers have signed a deal to set up their first industrial park in Yangon, which they expect will slash production costs by at least half.”

11/3/14, Myanmar.com

“Henkel has become the first international laundry detergent company to have local manufacturing operations in Myanmar.”

26/11/13, Henkel-ap.com

The market is becoming more attractive, especially when you see foreign companies like  Henkel, Unilever, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Lafarge, Nissan Motors, Suzuki Motors, Century Plyboards, Heineken, Carlsberg and many more entering the market and started or planning manufacturing facilities in the country!

Myanmar sees an influx of FDI especially in manufacturing sectors due to its strategic location, growing consumer base & low cost workforce. However, what are the challenges facing manufacturers and what are the entry strategies in this frontier market?  How do you select the right partner or go it alone? Is the infrastructure ready to support your investment? What are the tax implications and how do you structure your investment? How will local manufacturers stay competitive with the entry of foreign producers post AEC 2015?

CMT’s Myanmar Manufacturing Summit brings together leading industry experts and practitioners to share industry insights and experiences in Myanmar!
