All mining companies strive to operate safely, minimise environmental disturbance and provide medium to long term benefits to the local community and other stakeholders. This workshop will present a summary of internationally accepted best practices in safety, environmental management, and community and social responsibility. 

 

The key objectives of the workshop are:

 

  • Summarise the main international organisations involved in setting standards of practice for the minerals industry
  • Summarise the internationally accepted codes of practice covering the industry
  • Describe the challenges for developing countries to improve standards 
  • Present a range of examples illustrating aspects of safety, environmental management, and community and social responsibility
