AkzoNobel has started production at its fourth and largest decorative paints plant in China. The new plant in Chengdu is part of AkzoNobel’s US $57.2 million investment plan to build manufacturing facilities for both powder coatings and decorative paints. Construction on the plant – which will manufacture AkzoNobel's full range of decorative paint offerings – began in 2014 and it is expected to be fully operational by next year.
Rapid urbanisation in China has meant an increased demand for paints and coatings, and AkzoNobel’s new plant is a response to this demand. With three other decorative paints production plants in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Langfang that cover the southern, eastern and northern regions of the country, the Chengdu site will extend their reach to southwestern and northwestern regions.
