Japan’s Nissan to start assembling cars in Myanmar

Posted on : 16 Jun, 2016

With the opening of the economy and a new government, Myanmar’s auto manufacturing market is set to grow. With newfound optimism, major manufacturers are investing in Myanmar.

Nissan, a renown Japanese automaker, had announced plans to build the largest automobile manufacturing site in Myanmar a few years ago. Nissan started selling cars in the country in 2013. This includes vehicles such as X-Trail sports utility vehicle, Altima sedan, Navara pickup truck, NV350 Urvan van and Civilian minibus.

Now, along with its local partner Tan Chong Motor Group, Nissan will begin assembling new cars for the first time in the country.

While the new facility in the Bago region is still under construction, Nissan will start-off its assembling activities at an existing Tan Chong factory. The unit will be used to assemble Nissan’s Sunny compact sedan.

Once the new facility is completed, the operations will move there, that has a capacity to produce 10,000 units.

Nissan’s investments in Myanmar is in line with their expansion and growth plans which include other emerging markets such as India, Brazil, Russia and Nigeria.
