Nigeria’s major cement producer - Dangote Cement Plc has expanded into Asian markets. The company has tied up with China’s Sinoma International Engineering Company Limited to construct a 3-million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) cement plant in Nepal.
The cement plant is expected to capture the demand in Nepalese market, especially the reconstruction works in the aftermath of the April 2015 earthquake.
Dangote also plans to enter the Indian market and given Nepal’s geographical proximity to India, it’s strategic location for entering Indian and other Asian market.
The total contract signed between the two companies is worth $4.34 billion which not only includes the cement plant in Nepal but also several cement factories in 10 other African nations.
The new projects are expected to be completed in the next two years and help the cement behemoth reach capacity of over 70 million.
