Demand for Personalisation shaping PET Packaging Industry

Posted on : 05 May, 2015

PET packaging market is trending towards personalisation, particularly in the beverages industry where brands are looking at ways of using packaging material that can help create that 'personal' experience.

One such popular trend and fastest growing segments is the increasing demand for shrink sleeve labelling. Shrink sleeve, given that it covers a full bottle, offers brands more space to communicate with the consumer. Further such labeling has no restrictions on container shape as the film adapts to any surface. Its highly customisable shape and size leave more room for innovative and eye catchy label layouts.

Further, brands are willing to catch the constantly changing demand with seasonal variations and limited edition drinks like customising packaging of beverages for a sporting event. This has led to the need for small batch sizes, flexible print runs, and multipurpose production lines.

Personalisation of packaging calls for more flexibility in terms of labelling a variety of beverage types and bottle formats. It also demands faster product and format changeovers, simple operations and optimised processes. On the other hand, brand owners as well as consumers are placing a lot of importance on sustainability while choosing beverages. This requires producers to minimise environmental impact while maximising efficiency, decreasing costs and ensuring reliable performance.

Packaging formats like thinner labels and less glue are considered sustainable as they simplify recycling processes, reduce maintenance and increase machine efficiency.

More on PET packaging trends will be discussed at 4th SCAPET (South/Central Americas, Andean & Caribbean PET Markets, Applications & Recycling) on 2-4 June, 2015 in Bogota.
