Suntory introduces 12 µm label for PET bottles – the thinnest in Japan

Posted on : 09 Dec, 2014

Japan's Suntory Beverage & Food Limited (SBF), known for using recyclable PET resins, will now replace its 16 µm (micrometer) roll labels used on PET bottles with a more thinner 12 µm label.

The 16 µm was already the thinnest in Japan. The new thinner version will be used on the 2L and 550 ml PET bottles variants for its Suntory Minami-Alps Tennensui brand.

SBF has worked on recycled PET resins for its 18 µm label that used 60% recycled PET resin. The 16 µm product label was developed in 2012 which used 80% recycled PET resin content in the film.

The newest replacement of 12µm comes with 25% less CO2 emissions as compared to the existing roll labels.

The new label will be expanded to other products including Lyemon and Suntory Oolong Tea.

The company intends to replace the roll labels for all its products with the new label by the end 2014.

JPET (Japan PET Resin Trade, Fibers, Applications & Recycling / RPET) on 20-21 April, 2015 in Tokyo will explore more such trends in Japan's PET bottle market.
