Novozymes’ new enzyme technology – LpHera helps lower pH during liquefaction

Posted on : 01 Oct, 2014

Biotech major - Novozymes recently launched a new enzyme technology - LpHera that can lower pH during liquefaction. Designed to break down starch to create more dextrose when compared to conventional alpha-amylases, the new solution leads to higher yields while also saving chemical, water and energy by delaying the ion exchange service cycle.

The biotech major states that - the combined benefits can enable a starch processor to save up to 1 USD per metric ton of substrate.

Further, LpHera can achieve liquefaction pH level of as low as 4.5 to 4.8 - which means reduction of pH chemicals in some instances by over 50 percent.

With LpHera, producers can increase dextrose yields by 0.2 percentage points, which is helpful for starch customers who are processing large amounts of starch every day.

Moreover, LpHera can also benefit high fructose syrup producers as the technology enables efficient evaporation as well as water and energy savings.

Due to its crystalline dextrose properties, LpHera not only helps in higher crystallization yield but also helps achieve higher yield and better byproducts with lower salt levels for fermented products.

A session on "Enzyme innovations in the starch industry: LpHera, Novozymes new low pH Alpha Amylase" will be presented by Mr. Mads Weibye, Application Manager, Novozymes A/S at Starch World Mideast (Starch Derivatives, Sweeteners & Polyols) opening on 4-5 November, 2014 in Istanbul.
