Naturex, a global leader in specialty plant-based natural ingredients, has announced the launch of Sapnov™, a natural foaming agent – extracted from quillaia in Chile, adding to its existing list of naturally sourced ingredients.
This minimally processed surfactant meets the demand for both sulphate-free, mild surfactants and biodegradable ingredients in finished products.
With this new announcement, Naturex is further expanding its foothold in South America – especially in Chile. Last year, the company acquired Chile Botanics and its factory in Linares. This year the company has announced opening of a sales office in Santiago, Chile.
Naturex is keen to expand its presence in Latin America with Chile as its main market, given that the country has one of the highest GDPs per capita in Latin America and has the most free-trade agreements in the world. This coupled with Chile’s natural environment that opens up opportunities for a plant-based ingredients producer like Naturex. In fact Naturex is already sourcing Quillaja saponaria, a native tree rich in saponins from the Chilean forest.
It has collaborated with local authorities, to extract quillaia with different levels of purity in a sustainable way. After the Chile Botanics acquisition, Naturex has been trying to upgrade the quillaia extraction and purification facilities, which are based near quillaia harvesting areas in south Chile.
Sapnov™ is a non-ionic and water soluble surfactant. The ingredient is miscible with classical solvents, works in a wide range of pH and shows good stability even at high salt concentrations. It is 100% natural and the extract has other proven benefits that cannot be found in synthetic surfactants.
4th South America Surfactants HPC Markets on 18-19 November, 2015 in Sao Paulo will discuss natural surfactants plus more in greater detail.

Natura Cosméticos S.A., one of Latin America's largest cosmetics and personal care products company, has announced that it is purchasing Solazyme’s high-performance AlgaPūrTM Microalgae Oil. Natura has successfully tested the microalgae oil and completed the product validation over the past year.
Natura will incorporate the microalgae oil in its multiple product lines. The personal care products company expects that the microalgae oil used in its products will be a sustainable alternative for new formulations development.
Natura and Solazyme have been working together for two years on several projects to develop new formulations with Solazyme’s microalgae oils.
Solazyme produces microalgae oils using a fermentation process that is designed to produce oils of the highest purity, performance and sustainability. The renewable oil claims to provide higher hydration levels and provide a neutral color, odor, and better shelf life.
Solazyme has a joint venture facility in São Paulo, in partnership with Bunge.
4th South America Surfactants HPC Markets will be held in Sao Paulo on 18-19 November, 2015, to discuss the vast opportunities in South America’s surfactants, home and personal care market.
