PET Resin Xchange

Accessing the World's Largest Producer of 'Bottle Grade' Resins

Asia and China in particular has long been the cardinal and global supplier of the PET industry.  With larger capacities coming on-stream and the resurgence in demand after the recent economic downturn, China has become a magnet for buyers and traders from Europe to the Americas to source for raw materials and seek cost competitiveness.

  • How is China driving and leading the global PET trade?
  • How are the feedstock and intermediates markets influencing the supply/demand dynamics?
  • How does sustainability impact packaging trends & the PET business?

CMT’s PETresin Xchange provides you the answers to these concerns and more! It’s the platform for international buyers and suppliers to gain first hand information and forge business opportunities, all in one location.

Spread over 3 days, the conference also includes pre and post plant visits to one of China’s newest PET resin production facility and the only PET beer bottling facility.

Exciting Reasons to Attend:

  • Meet local resin producers – China Resources Packaging Material, Zhejiang Wankai New Materials, Far Eastern Group and many more.
  • Listen to a panel of convertors from Zhuhai Zhongfu, Zijiang Enterprise, GSI, etc. debating on managing and optimizing the purchasing process
  • Assess China’s competitive position and challenges as global supplier
  • Update on intermediates market prospects – PX,PTA and MEG
  • Emergence of Bio-MEG as the future renewable raw material
  • Analyze  the market position of the Middle East PET industry versus Asia
  • Identify opportunities in Africa’s growing PET market
  • Shifting paradigm of PET integration in Asia from fiber to beer application
  • Two plant visits: ‘Bottle-grade’ PET plant & integrated beer preform and brewery facility

Rounding up the series of CMT’s PET events, attend PETresin Xchange and be equipped with the latest industry trends and market forecasts for the coming year ahead!

Asian purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plants may face fierce competition in 2013, with overall operating rates falling below 80% amid extensive expansion, despite strong projected PTA consumption growth in the region.

"Most of the new projects and investments were inhibited or delayed by the global financial crisis in 2008. However, strong demand recovery in Asia since late 2009 has prompted another round of investment," says a senior manager with a major Chinese PTA producer.

Capacity growth is expected to speed up from 5-6% from 2007-2010 to as high as 18% in 2012, before it declines back to 8% in 2013.

The demand for PET is highest in Asia, with China driving the majority of global demand. There is a huge consumption potential in largely populated countries such as India and China. The strong economic growth along with the large population enables the large consumption of Carbonated Soft Drinks (CSDs) and bottled water in the region. The rapidly changing lifestyle of people in the region supports the consumption of packaged food. China has also grown rapidly in the capacity and production of petrochemicals. China is the largest producer of PET in the region and exports to many countries.

Vietnam is the only country in SEA that has a higher beer consumption per capita than soft-drinks. However in 2009, the consumption of soft-drinks showed double-figure growth again. Multinational companies dominate the water marker. La Vie of Nestle is the best selling bottled water, followed by Aquafina (Pepsi) and Joy (Coke). The water market has the highest PET penetration, i.e. virtually 100% is bottled in PET. With this increase, Vietnam is expecting an annual consumption of 50,000t of PET Resins for 2010, with imports from Asia.

According to GBI Research, the largest market for PET is carbonated soft drinks (CSD) while the second biggest is bottled water, with both accounting for more than 65% of the global PET demand.

There is, however, one other market that has strong potential for growth (with regards to PET applications) but is widely untapped – the beer market.

At the PETresin Xchange in Shanghai happening from 16-18 November, 2010, the spotlight on the beer market will provided by Ms Fanny Liao, Managing Director of Sino-Belgium Beer (Suzhou) who is speaking on ‘PET integration in Asia – from Fossil-based to Bio-based in Raw Materials & from Fiber to Beer in Applications’.

Additionally, there will also be a site visit to an integrated beer preform/bottling plant in Suzhou, SBBZ, where the brewing technology comes from a 252-year brewer in Bocholt, Belgium.

The joint venture between Sino-Belgium Beer, Suzhou and Martens, Belgium produces preforms, coated PET beer bottles and beer. It’s the only integrated facility packaging beer in PET in China.

So don’t miss out on PETresin Xchange, the platform where buyers meet sellers!
