Mexico is prime territory for Austrian plastics recycling equipment maker Erema Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen GmbH. Erema’s latest sales success there includes a 1,102-pound-per-hour shredder to a Mexican plastics recycler, but the company is also targeting its machinery at other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean, according to Clemens Zittmayr, international sales manager responsible for the region.
Mexico accounts for 50 percent of the firm’s total business in Latin America and the Caribbean. 2010 might
also be “a great year” for the firm in Colombia and in Peru — where Erema recently sold what it called a
“complete package,” he added. In fact, Zittmayr claims the company has a presence in every country in
Latin America, a region that makes up about 10 percent of Erema’s total annual sales — with Mexico being
the largest piece of that, he said.

Given Erema’s many successes in the Latin American market, CMT’s 8th LAPET is privileged to have its representative share their experiences at our conference. Erema’s product manager, Christoph Wöss will be speaking about their further advancements on the Bottle-to-Bottle Recycling Technology and addressing related issues below:
CO2 reduction
Reduced water consumption
AA level like virgin resin
This year’s 8th LAPET will also be covering regional updates and the various PET innovations and technologies.

The Beverage Marketing Corp. in New York City says Mexico's bottled water market composes 13 percent of the world's total, and has grown at 8 percent for each of the past five years.
For big companies, the boom in bottled water consumption in developing countries such as Mexico, India, China and Indonesia has been a godsend, since consumers in Europe, a stronghold of bottled water, have rebelled against throwaway plastic bottles as harmful to the environment.
"The sale of water has risen on the order of 8 percent, while soft drinks rose 2 percent," Pepsi Mexico President Juan Gallardo Thurlow announced in early April.

The soft drinks industry in Mexico is big business. Nationwide, there are about 250 bottling plants. Between them they produce some 300 million cases of soft drinks a year, worth about 15.5 billion dollars. The per person consumption of soft drinks in Mexico has reached 160 liters a year. This means Mexico has overtaken the USA to become the world’s leading consumer of soft drinks on a per person basis, according the the Health Commission of Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies.

As mentioned in the articles above, bottled water and soft drinks consumption in Mexico has been growing for the past 5 years. This definitely rings in good news for the PET market as bottled water and carbonated soft drinks (CSD) are the two main applications for PET.
Those seeking to explore or capitalize on global outlook on the PET resin market and the regional growth trends in PET preforms and bottles can now make plans to join major suppliers, vendors and customers in the PET industry who are meeting at the 8th LAPET in Mexico City from 09-10 November, 2010.
Program agenda for this meet is still being finalized and will be updated shortly. Do visit us for the next update or email hafizah@cmtsp.com.sg for other details on the 8th LAPET in Mexico City from 09-10 November 2010.
