Tapping Emerging Innovations to Deliver Agri Yield

With pressing need to feed the multiplying world population in 2050, higher seed improvements for agricultural production is vital. Agribiotech with its innovation and technology highlights the need for quality seed to deliver immediate yield increases. CMT is organizing the Agribiotech and SEED Markets conference in October 12-13, 2010, Jakarta.

"Global seed market grows by 10% to 32 billion" 2010-5-14, www.news.agropages.com

"Thailand has 67 million rai of rice paddy and seed demand for 900,000 tonnes a year, only 10% of which is quality seed worth about 9 billion baht. Bayer Group is ready to launch hybrid rice seeds after years in research, development and trials." 11/06/2010 www.bangkokpost.com

"The US company will invest up to $30 million for seed capacity expansion in Thailand and the Philippines next year after spending $11 million recently to enlarge a similar facility in Malang, Indonesia, said Arun Baral, director of the seed business for Asia-Pacific" 25/11/2009 www.bangkokpost.com

"East West Seeds Corp, a pioneering hybrid vegetable seed producer, has opened an P80 million research and development (R&D) facility in Lipa, Batangas which is the most sophisticated privately-owned R&D facility in the Philippines as it aims to keep its leadership in the hybrid vegetable seed sector" February 24, 2010 www.mb.com.ph

The demand for quality seeds of improved varieties is growing fast. Also, globally, farmers are adopting new technologies rapidly. However, is the regulatory and policy environment keeping pace with the development of technology? What are the types of AgriBiotech being developed? How is innovation being used across seed types to drive up yield and reduce input costs? Many countries impose strict conditions on seed quality and safety while importing. What are the mechanisms for reducing technical barriers to trade and facilitating trade in seed?

Attend CMT's conference on Agribiotech and SEED Markets to analyze the size of the seeds market, major players on their strategies, the growth drivers and major issues facing the industry.

Key Reasons to Attend and Find Out

There is a global consensus on the urgency to improve agricultural yield to feed the increasing world population. This in turn has led to higher demand for more and improved varieties of quality seeds. At present, farmers all over the world are adopting new techonologies and techniques to increase the agricultural yield rapidly. With such moves in place, questions related to these actions emerge and remain unanswered.

The Agribiotech and SEED Markets conference aims to provide the answers and insights to concerns pertaining to:

  • types of agribiotech being developed
  • how innovations are being used across seed types to drive up yield and reduce input costs
  • mechanisms in place for reducing technical barriers to trade and facilitate trade in seed and many more.

Participants at the meet can look forward to discover all about size of the seeds market, current major players and their strategies, primary growth drivers and key issues facing the industry.

Apart from anticipated updates from ASEAN government agencies, as well as presentations on China and India's seed regulatory framework, recent plans to commercialize agribiotech and prospects for investment, this Jakarta event from October 12-13, 2010, will also provide assessments of current project pipeline, public-private partnership, key technology and seed trait work.

Agribiotech & SEED Markets privileged to have Bayer CropScience explore hybrid rice seeds concerns in Jakarta
Posted on : 22 Jul, 2010

The average yield per rai of Thai rice is 450 kilogrammes per rai, far behind its arch-rival Vietnam, which is reported to have 750 kg.

While climate is uncontrollable and improvements to the irrigation system require a large long-term investment, the Agriculture Ministry has encouraged farmers to use better seed to improve performance. The amount of quality seed produced now for commercial sale is paltry.

Now CP Group and Bayer Group are ready to launch hybrid rice seeds after years in research, development and trials.

Will use of hybrid rice seeds assure higher yield?

That’s just one of the key concerns that Agribiotech & SEED markets meet on 12-13 October in Jakarta will explore.

For that reason, among the invited speakers is the Global Head of Rice Seed and Traits from Bayer CropScience, to talk about the current status, development and trend of hybrid rice seed.

CMT's Agribiotech & Seed Markets meet on 12-13 Oct 2010 in Jakarta explores Positive Impact of Biotech Crops
Posted on : 28 Jun, 2010

Biotech crops are delivering higher yields and better economic performance for farmers around the world. According to the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications (ISAAA), global adoption of plant biotechnology increased by seven percent in 2009. 14 million farmers in 25 countries grew biotech crops, over 90 percent of them small farmers in developing countries.

Denise Dewar, Executive Director for Plant Biotechnology at CropLife International mention that "Farmers around the world are faced with changing climates and pest pressures which make it challenging to achieve food security for a growing population. The continued increase in biotech crop acreage is testament to the simple truth that farmers, when given the option, choose biotech crops because of the benefits they provide."
