Strategising for growth in the burgeoning MidEast plastics industry

"Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) has plans to raise Saudi Arabia's stake in the global plastic market from the current 1% to at least 15% by the year 2020." ~ Zawya, Sept 28 2006

Aggressive capacity expansions have been announced in the upstream polymer industry while progress in the plastics downstream industry have traditionally taken a backseat. All that looks set to change however as governments and companies now recognize the importance of this previously neglected sector and have announced ambitious initiatives to grow this industry. What are some of these investment strategies and what challenges lie ahead for players ?

Still in its infancy stage, plastic converters and processors will need to equip themselves with the latest know-how in order to compete effectively in the global markets. What are some of the latest processing and molding technologies in the market? What lessons can they draw from players operating in the more mature markets?

The Gulf region sees some of the most aggressive buildup in years, particularly the UAE, as its construction and real estate sectors experience an exponential growth. Much of this boom is driving the demand for plastic products eg. plastic packaging, plastic pipes, etc. What is the market outlook for these products ? How can plastic converters and processors strengthen their positioning and reduce the region's need for imports?

Exciting times lie ahead for the Gulf's downstream plastic industry. Hear these and more at Arabplast Summit 2007 on 15-16 January. Held In conjunction with Arabplast Exhibition, CMT is organizing this prestigious event in Dubai with the support of Al Fajer Info & Services.
