In spite of recent cost increase and EPC constraints, the pace of cracker expansions is accelerating. The Gulf petrochemical sector looks set to become a force to reckon with in today’s global competitive business. Many of the increased capacities are dependent on sustained demand growth in Asia and China. How will the consumption trends evolve? As its own domestic capcities increase, will China's imports of PP & PE drop below 30% in 4 years as forecasted by some analysts?

Integration and mixed feedstock crackers seem to be gaining ground, a trend helped by increaseing demand for propylene that is forecasted to grow to more than 80 million t/y by 2012 and more limited ethane feedstock. How will integration and improved technology options help producers become more efficient? Amid efforts by the government and private players alike, how will the downstream industry take shape? How can producers maximise their value and become more competitive?
