Optimal Feedstock Choices in Volatile Times
CMT’s 5th annual Petchem Feedstock conference brings top industry players to examine current and future trends in the feedstock landscape. Producers are alternating between available feedstock options. With high oil prices hovering at US$60bbl, the feedstock equation is no longer simply naphtha and condensates. But expanding to include natural gas and LPG. The latter is increasingly used in China. Coal is also holding strong as Shenhua Group and Ningxia Coal Group are embarking to build a coal to olefins plant after the announcement by Dow chemicals to study coal gasification at its olefins plant. Are more such projects to be expected?

The optimal choice of feedstock will ensure producers sustain their margins. This is crucial especially when demand for petrochemicals continue to surge as producers seize the opportunity in the remaining window in the current upturn before the pending trough either late this year or early next year.

Will China continue to be a big importer in petchem feedstock?

SINOPEC’s session will shed some light on feedstock demand that will come from China’s expansions. What are the other project developments in China? The expansions in the rest of Asia, including Taiwan, India, and South Korea, will also affect the demand for feedstock.

MidEast producers have announced mega cracker expansion plans. What are the feedstock developments that will keep pace with these expansions? Will the feedstock supply to Asia be affected? Historically lower than the cost of feedstock being supplied within Asia, any feedstock disruption from the MidEast will affect the producers’ options and hence margins.

Attend CMT’s 5th Asia/China Petrochemical Feedstock Conference and hear from the majors about their development plans and how will these cracker expansions tip the demand-supply balance in Asia.
